Frequently asked questions

How do I install Bindl and how is it billed?

Install Bindl from the Shopify App Store, then approve the Pay per sale plan that Shopify shows you. There is no subscription: you pay 5% of the price excluding taxes of each photo book sold through Bindl, shipping excluded, through Shopify billing on your regular Shopify invoice. A month without sales costs nothing. The plan has a spending cap of 5,000 USD per 30 days.

How do my customers open the editor?

In the Bindl app, click Enable on my theme, then Save in the theme editor. On the product pages of your photo books, a Create my book button then replaces Add to cart and opens the editor. The customer designs the book and pays through your Shopify checkout, and the order appears in your Shopify admin. These products keep a stock of 0 on purpose: books are ordered from the editor, never from the cart.

How do I set up my formats?

In the Bindl app, click Open my dashboard, then Formats: set the size in mm, the minimum and maximum number of pages, the base price and the price per page. The Materials and Options pages add the choices your customers can make. Bindl creates and updates the matching products in your store by itself, at the price of the cheapest configuration.

What print files do I get?

Each order comes with a print-ready file: a PDF, or a ZIP of JPG pages, at 300 dpi by default. Under Printing in the dashboard you set the format, the resolution, the bleed, crop marks and the PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 standard. Download the file from Orders: it is available once the commission on the sale has been billed.

How do I refund a customer?

Refund the order from your Shopify admin, as for any other order. The Bindl commission on that sale is not cancelled automatically: write to [email protected] with the order number.

What happens when I uninstall Bindl?

Uninstall it from Settings, then Apps, in your Shopify admin: Shopify ends the Pay per sale plan and nothing more is billed. 48 hours later, Shopify asks Bindl to erase your store's data: the connection to your store, your customers' projects, photos and print files and the pending orders are deleted, and past orders are kept without any personal data. The products Bindl created stay in your store: delete them yourself if you no longer need them.
